Hardware Tip

Before you throw away an old sponge, place it inside a container made for washing small parts in a dishwasher and wash it along with a load of dishes. Cut the sponge into 1-inch wide pieces. They are useful for applying wall paint to touch up damaged spots.

Gardening Tip

Environmentally aware gardeners kill weeds and prevent growth by spreading black plastic over the soil surface and staking it. The high temperatures kill growth and germinating seeds. Remove the plastic prior to replanting and dispose it properly.
